About SVK

Covering/installation method

SVK slates can be installed in a variety of ways. There are various installation and covering methods that can be used. Each technique has a specific look which gives the material a wide appearance. Examples include: half stone, mesh covering, Swiss covering, Leuven covering, diamond pattern, etc. Depending on the installation method, the number of slates per m² is calculated, among other things. In addition, the slat spacing for the slates can also be calculated in this way. The ridge finishing of a slate roof depends on the roof slope and/or preference of the architect or client.

01

Mesh covering (vertical double covering)

The vertical, double covering is suitable for fitting all rectangular slates. The slates are covered in half stone. In terms of height, each row is partially covered by the two rows above, so that each slate is divided into three parts. This covering method is possible for the following sizes in our range.

Applicable sizes: 60/40, 60/32, 60/30, 45/30, 40/27, 40/24, 40/20 cm

Half stone (horizontal double covering)

The half stone or horizontal double covering method is a variation on the vertical double covering (Mesh covering). The rectangular slates are fitted horizontally here. This covering can be used for both facade cladding and roofing.

Applicable sizes: 60/32, 60/30, 45/30, 40/27, 40/24, 40/20

Swiss covering

With Swiss covering, the slate is fitted horizontally. The slates have a single, vertical and a single side covering. To speed up the drainage of rainwater on the underside of the slate, the slates are placed at an angle of 1 cm. They can be used for both facades and roofs. Not suitable for roof applications with the following characteristics: exposure to heavy rain, tall buildings and high roofs.

Applicable sizes: 60/30, 40/27, 40/24, 40/20

diamond covering

Diamond covering is only applicable for diamond-shaped slates. Diamond slates are square slates measuring 40 x 40 cm with two opposite corners cut parallel to each other. In order to install diamond slates in a diamond covering, the over-covering for the roof must be 10 cm and for the facade cladding 5 cm, measured perpendicularly to the edge of the slate.

Applicable sizes: 40/40/5 and 40/40/10

checkerboard pattern

The checkerboard pattern is based on the same principle as the diamond slates, only with a smaller over-covering, so that a linear pattern is achieved. The lines then form continuous diagonals. Only for facades.

Applicable size: 40/40/10

Leuven covering (covering with open joint)

The Leuven covering or covering with open joint is a variation on the vertical double covering. The slates are pushed out to the side, creating an open space between the sides of the slates, which varies according to the size of the slate and the over-covering used. Only for facades.

Applicable sizes: 60/40, 60/32, 60/30, 45/30, 40/27, 40/24, 40/20

Horizontal single coverage

With horizontal single coverage, there is a variant in which the slates are straight above each other. The longest side of these slates is fitted horizontally, next to each other, with a joint of 4 mm. In terms of height, they are then fitted directly on top of each other.

Applicable sizes: 60/30, 40/27, 40/24, 40/20

Half stone (horizontal covering)

With horizontal single covering, there is also the half stone variant. The longest side of these slates is fitted horizontally, next to each other, with a joint of 4 mm. In terms of height, they are then fitted in a half stone pattern.

Applicable sizes: 60/30, 40/27, 40/24, 40/20
