How should I saw fibre cement siding?
SVK cladding panels are very hard and should always be processed in a dry environment like stony material.
SVK gives general advice based on trial tests for sawing fibre cement facing panels. The optimum settings depend on both the sawing equipment and the saw blade used.
- Wear gloves during processing to avoid sweat and grease stains on the surface of the wall cladding panel.
- Do not forget safety goggles and dust mask.
- Use a saw blade with a continuous diamond band, a saw blade with teeth will not give good results.
- Work with a sufficiently powerful saw
- Always carry out a test for the optimum speed (2800 to 3600 rpm, depending on the diameter of the saw blade) and progress speed. This may differ for each type of cladding panel.
- When sawing, make sure you use an extraction device
- Finish saw edges smoothly with fine sanding cloth (no. 220) or a sanding block.
- Remove saw dust immediately with a dry cloth. Sawdust left on the sheet surface can cause staining or chalk efflorescence.
- Remove the foil of Puro Plus and Decoboard after sawing and after installation of the cladding panels but definitely do so the same day.
