Today, SVK blows out 116 candles
SVK celebrated its 116th anniversary on 8 August. Thanks to its rich history, SVK has developed into an expert in fibre cement and architectural concrete.
116 years of history
It was exactly 116 years ago when Léon Scheerders and Camilla van Kerchove decided to set up a company: "Pannen en Steenbakkerijen van Sint-Nicolaas". In its first years, the company focused on the production and trade of bricks, pans, paving stones and pipes.
In 1923 SVK started the production of fibre cement. In the beginning, the focus was on the production and distribution of corrugated sheets and slates. Soon they changed the name to "Naamloze Vennootschap Scheerders van Kerchove's Verenigde Fabrieken", better known by its current name: SVK. The arrival of fibre cement facade panels in 1947 provided an innovative way of cladding. The façade panels soon became very popular with architects because of their durability and variety. Years later, fibre cement is still a popular raw material in the construction industry. After all these years SVK contine to specialise in the production of fibre cement corrugated sheets, facade cladding panels and slates and therefore belongs to the absolute top.
Architectural concrete
In 1979 SVK founded the department of architectural ornamental concrete. The focus here is on large projects in which everything is made to measure. The combination of first class architecture and meticulous finishing ensures unprecedented, unique realisations.
SVK today
Years later, SVK has become a global player in the production and marketing of fibre cement products in Europe, Australia, North America, India and the Middle East. Thanks to years of experience as a producer of fibre cement slates, facade panels and corrugated sheets, SVK can call itself a true expert in fibre cement. Today SVK mainly works on the ecological aspect without losing sight of the quality of the products.
