Can I repair Ornimat cladding panels myself?
Method for repairing minor damage:
Small damages can be repaired with the SVK polyurethane restoration paint. However, this applies only to the SVK standard colours and the RAL colours, not to the Ornimat Design colours. With Ornimat Design colours, the special effect pigments, which give the shimmer, can never be applied in the same way as during production. A repair will always be visible. Colouring the end edges is possible, but due to the small panel thickness and the effect of the angle (refraction of light), the difference is not noticeable.
For standard and RAL colours, a repair will be visible to a lesser extent, also depending on colour to colour and on the severity degree of the repair.
If necessary, sand lightly around the damage.
- Remove dust thoroughly.Avoid having impurities of any kind on the surface to be painted.
- Certainly no humidity on the surface to be painted. If necessary, warm up slightly at the damage (between 25 and 40 °C surface temperature).
- Mixing ratios: 1000 g paint component + 100 g diluted hardener (56 g hardener + 44 g co-solvent).
- Add the co-solvent to the hardener and mix well.
- Add the diluted hardener to the paint component while stirring and mix well for about 10 minutes before use. Potlife of the paint: approx. 4 hours.
- The hiding power is assessed visually. If 1 coat does not provide sufficient coverage, apply a second coat.
- Cleaning agent: water.
- If too stubborn: mixture of 90 % water and 10 % co-solvent.
- Avoid splashes in the eyes. In case of accident, rinse eyes immediately with clean (tap) water.
Advice for repair
Material:
Two-component polyurethane paint system (available from SVK on request only for repairing minor damages, for repainting we refer to retailers).
The components of this paint system must be mixed together in accordance with the instructions on the label.
The quantity of paint to be applied is kept to a minimum as it can only be used for a limited time.
Surplus paint cannot be re-used. The various components can.
Store the components in the original packaging and always close them tightly after use.
It is very important to store them frost-free.
Weather conditions:
Weather conditions necessary for good processing of Ornimat paint:
- not rainy
- not foggy
- preferably not too strong wind, which can carry a lot of dust
- open weather
- minimum surface temperature 25°C
- maximum surface temperature 40°C
